CLASS OF 2011 - HOMECOMING

After the hammering handed out to Newcastle in the 1-1 draw at the weekend we are back in action tonight with a Carling Cup quarter final at home to Ipswich Town and from the looks of it it wil be a young side containing the class of 2011 who won the FA Youth Cup last May .The likes of Ravel Morrison, Larnell Cole, Paul Pogba, Ezekiel Fryers are all expected to play some part in the game tonight. The game being played at home wil be an advantage for the young side as they will be playing in an familiar environment rather than daunting Portman Road had the tie been the other way around.

It will be very interesting to see how Pogba fares tonight, he is poised to make his first start at Old Trafford and given the midfiled injury crisis we are suffering currently, a confident performance could see him make the bench [and possible premiership debut] in the clashes ahead in the Premiership. Manager had spoken about it in his program notes about timing the promotion of youngsters into the first team  and we completely agree with him, although the Pogba situation is quite worrying to be honest. The lad is very highly rated across Europe and is looking for a move to a top club in Italy should he be deprived of first team football any longer and a confident outing tonight could help Fergie take that great leap of faith and give him a debut in the coming festival fixtures as the games come thick and fast and the depth of the squad will be tested to the bare limit.
Fryers is another prospect that has caught the eye this season with his accomplished performance at left back in the last game at Aldershot. Morrison on the other hand has been handled by utmost care, Going by the performance he gave against Chelsea in the FA Youth Cup semis last May I for one had expected him to start making a mark in the senior team this season. He is highly rated at Old Trafford and is considered by many to be the most gifted player to graduate from the academy since that ginger haired lad who wore the no.18 for us with great distinction. Its heartening to see that we have not come across any acts of indiscipline from him so far, The lad has a notorious history of misconduct and unruly behavior.

I am expecting a great game tonight and if they play without fear and enjoy the moment infront of 70,000+ screaming fans then there wont be anything stopping them and United in joining the likes of City, a rejuvenated Liverpool in the semis, What a salivating draw would that turn out to be and we were thinking that Carling Cup was on its death bed.

AND WHILE WE ARE AT IT,

Tottenham are on a great run at the moment and expectations are running high of a Top 4 finish above Arsenal. The Lily white faithful have not enjoyed this sort of optimism in years and they deserve their part of the sunshine. Spurs boast of a team that could walk into the Arsenal playing 11 at the moment. Ah!!! did not know I would get to say that.

The real test will come when they make those daunting trips away from home to Anfield, Stamford Bridge and the Emirates where their woeful away record against the top 4 will be tested.

The Special One after reaching one of the lowest points in his career last August with his antics in  the Super Copa tie at Nou Camp has donned a sombre dignified look and his team have been doing all the talking for him and boy they can talk, it has even managed to draw worried looks at the Camp Nou. Fergie was right when he said that he would not want to face Madrid in the last 16 and with  the kind of form CR7 is in we would surely need a machine gun to stop him !!!
