Far From A Tribute. Disaster in Minsk

Appalling, deplorable, repulsive, ghastly! I can't find a superlative to do justice to Milan's performance in Minsk. Milan's trip to Belarus showed just how unprepared they are for the Champions League. The club announced that this game was going to be a tribute to Cassano(taken in ill for an ischemic stroke after the Roma game) but it was far from it. It disheartens every Milansti to see the team put in such a terrible performance after all this talk of it being a tribute.

Tribute? More like a disgrace.
Allegri was cut for choice with his strikers and was forced to start Robinho alongside Ibrahimovic. This proved disastrous. Misplaced passes and wasteful finishing characterised Robinho's game last night. A completely wayward pass to Taiwo was the start of his disastrous night and it was concluded with the goofing up of a simple one on one. Boateng had another fruitless night. Poor movement and poor delivery seemed to be his forte for the night. As a Milan fan, this inconsistency in attack and Fantantonio's absence fluster me.

After a good performance against Roma on Saturday, Aquilani was expected to put in another commendable performance but disappointed heavily. He seemed completely non-existent in midfield. Barely any touches at all and a fairly simple miss topped off his dreadful night. Nocerino put in a very mediocre performance. His delivery for Ibrahimovic was very average and he barely pressed the BATE attack. Surprisingly, it was Ambrosini who was the workhorse in Milan's midfield. The captain put in his best performance of the season.

Milan looked good in defence. Abate did the dirty work fairly neatly until he committed that fateful foul to give BATE a penalty. Nesta and Silva looked fairly comfortable but Taiwo seems a worry for us Milan fans and Allegri. Abbiati saved Milan a great deal of blushes with some good saves.

Milan's midfield let them down last night. Flamini might not be the best midfielder around but he does have a certain amount of bite in him and that is something Milan really miss at the moment. Aquilani and Boateng need to get rid of this unpredictability and maintain a good level of consistency. Robinho in attack is another worrying factor. Allegri, please figure something out quick!

Losses to AEK Athens and Lille in the 06-07 campaign and losses to Lens and Deportivo in the 02-03 campaign eventually saw Milan lifting the Champions League in both those seasons. Another unsuccessful European campaign seems imminent but I prefer to live in my own little cocoon where Milan shall lift the trophy for the 8th time.

A night the Belarusians will never forget
